VPN works fine via the ADSL, but as soon as I switch over to 3G modem, with a HSDPA connection, the VPN connection throws me out after connecting with username and password, while busy with the the L2TP protocol. Played with the different protocols and encryption, but with no luck.
Phones Vodacom support, also with no luck.
As mentioned, I am running a new laptop with Windows 7 64bit.
All worked fine with Windows XP.

Any help or more info will be appreciated

Thanks

Not all IPSec VPN Client Software Packages are Win7 / 3G compatible or at least require some patches. What VPN software are you using?

using windows 7 build-in software

will look into updating windows 7!!!
or trying a 3rd party VPN

CISCO VPN Client

Hi,

im having the same/similar problem.

Im using the cisco vpn client to connect through to my company, the client connects, but none of the packets sent out reach the server and vice versa. Works properly using public internet connections and DSL.

IT have said that they've had this problem before, and that Vodacom will be able to sort it out. so after a few calls yesterday, and after being bounced around a little from person to person.. all i managed to get was that apparently i need to activate an unrestricted apn on my simcard.. but how to do this.. no one seemed to know.. and im still waiting for a call back in "20 minutes" from yesterday afternoon.

Thinking of going in to Vodacom today and getting them to sort it out. apparently the "internet" apn will only allow you internet..

anyone know anything about this? or how to resolve?..

I do have the 64bit vpn client installed.. and it does work using other connections.

You shouldn't need the unrestricted APN to get VPN clients working. The changes last year to the internet APN moved away from RFC1918 addresses to routeable internet addresses which eliminated the NAT issues that plagued VPN users. In short it should work on internet APN.

One of the recent issues I have seen with a ZTE modem and VMC 9.4 was that it connected using the pseudo Ethernet device (rather than dial-up). The VPN client also uses a pseudo Ethernet device. Once the VPN client connects VMC decides the VPN connection is a better one and disconnects itself and attempts to route via the VPN interface which breaks (because there is no more internet connection). Upgrading to v10 from the vodafone.co.uk site fixed that particular issue.
