South African virtual private server hosting price comparison

South African website or app owners have several virtual private server (VPS) hosting providers from which to choose, with prices starting at R49 per month.

Virtual private servers offer users dedicated server space on shared hardware with reserved central processing unit (CPU), memory, storage, and bandwidth resources.

I would love to see a platform features comparison.

Things like, VM backups, whether live disk increases are available. When virtualization platform their use. Do they support multiple admin accounts and permission groups for your IT team.

Thank you once again Myles and Jan

Just to add, we have additional VPS Servers available below and are offering 20% discount for the first three months when using coupon code EPYC2024 at checkout

Nothing I hate more than a 1vCPU.

Anything I do or spec starts with 2vCPUs.

Then again, I use Windows. I will learn Linex one day... 1 day.
1 core Linux machines remain responsive even at full load.

It's only really disk IO that can bring it to a grinding halt. Not much of a problem with NVME storage anymore.

Here is the playlist we have our new admins go through to get up to speed on Linux command line.

You should include VPSs from CONTABO.com in this review, as these are even more accessible than the local stuff to SAers . They dwarf all these SA packages with a lot of AMD 7282 vCPU, RAM, and especially disk space which is always SSD, or less storage on NVMe.
I rent 6 vCPU, 16 GB, 400 GB SSD VPS, with unlimited -IN and 32 TB -OUT traffic from Contabo for $14 p.m., which bills as around R265 p.m. This runs several rings around my Afrihost VPS with 2 GB RAM, 1 vCPU and 100 GB disk space and 4 TB combined traffic for R300 p.m. Contabo have VPSs available in Germany, USA, Japan, and other countries, but not SA.
The only reason I still use my SA VPS is because there is a bit more latency (around 150 ms) to the VPS in Germany, and the network speed to South Africa is slightly lower than the locally hosted VPSs. If you connect to Europe or USA from the VPS though, it's lightning and latency is generally less than 5 ms. But my measures are a bit anecdotal, and I have not tested Contabo's other VPS locations - maybe MyBB can do that?

I think you are shooting a bit corporate for this low level review.

That is the whole problem with Windoze servers - you need a lot of resources and performance to do nothing, so there's not much resources left to do something.

check out VULTR, they have SA resources available and only use SSD/NVME...

Totally agree, been using them for years. They beat everything in SA by a long shot, except for latency. Great company. If your application is not dependent on low latency, can't see why you'd go anywhere else.

Contabo is a heap of crap. If you are fine with excessive cpu steal, extreme over selling, and worst uptime, then sure...go you with them.
