Hi ,

One of my websites (www.halaalrecipes.co) has been growing quite nicely , and has outgrown shared hosting.
I was thinking of going on a virtual server , but have no idea , and cant find a suitable info ,
on how to calculate what resources you will need.

I was thinking on taking this
https://www.digitalocean.com/pricing/

$ 10 / mo
Most Popular Plan

1GBMemory
1 CoreProcessor
30GBSSD Disk
2TBTransfer

or

$ 20 / mo
2GBMemory
2 CoreProcessor
40GBSSD Disk
3TBTransfer

Currently i'm serving around 2500 visitors and transferring around 3.5 gb a day.
Adds up to a few hundred thousand pages a day, but most of those are ajax loaded, so they are very light .
Most bandwidth is taken up by the images.

Would these solution cope with my needs ?
Any suggestions appreciated

The $10 should be fine.

You will also probably need to pay about $15 for a hosting controller licence... like cPanel.
Then you will want image backups that are offered by Digital ocean, this will be around an additional $3

Once you have installed cPanel and setup your host... install the Munin plugin so you can see what your load is like, what your traffic is like, etc. But from what I can see, that VPS should handle what you need. You can always upgrade the resources if you have to.

+1,pay the money to keep the website on Cpanel, the ease of transfers later on (assuming you do cpanel to cpanel) will make it worth every cent.

Thanks a lot , that helps alot !.
Busy doing research into this before i make the final move.

another noob question , since the hosting is on linux , so you install something liking lamp , and then manually manage hosts , like you generally do on your personal windows machine, or does cpanel , have scripts which auto install these things like mysql , awstats ,email etc ??

They have one click install for LAMP stacks: https://www.digitalocean.com/one-click-apps/
