I have a virus that I picked up from a printing place. This virus is very annoying as it changes evey folder to .exe but the folder is still accessable. When I delete one of the exe's (folder) it just recreates itself instantaneously (?spelling).

AVG updated doesn't seem to pick it up.

Anyhoo, I backed up what was in the exe folders and all the contents seem fine, as in doesn't seem infected because after backing it up there are no exe folders on my pc harddrive. Then I formatted the drive through cmd promt as the virus won't allow me to do it in windows, I even did it in safe mode. But when I copy a file back to the flash its just the same thing, changes the folders to exe.

I tried googling someone said it's the inf virus but I don't think its this.

Any one ever had this and know how to fix it?

Thanks!

I should mention that some of the data is very inportant so I can't delete it...

If you plug that flash into a linux box you can safely delete the exe folders without them recreating themselves. Just go through every single folder to make sure there are no more exe's anywhere and you should be clean after that!

OK, Gonna try Autorun Eater, otherwise I'll try the linux solution.

Thanks fo rthe replies guys!

Use firefox and add SA English dic. ;)

Do you have an AV on your pc? I had a similar problem and used www.eset.com/online-scanner to get rid of it.

Had something similar.

Your folders have been hidden, and the 'virus' created ".exe" files with the fiilenames of your existing folders and gave them the folder icon (do not try open these!).

1. Try the following in dos prompt --> attrib -r -h -s e:\*.* /s /d
2. With "e:\" being your flash drive for example.
3. Show hidden extensions and delete all the EXE's that look like folders.
4. Run Avast scan (or whichever AV you prefer).
5. Run Malwarebytes scan.

solved my problem. otherwise get hold of a HirensBootCD and boot MiniXP and do everything from there. Not much chance of infection then.
