Virus on important word document, need to open it asap

my avast has found a virus on my word document and it automatically put it in the chest, I tried restoring it and disabling Avast but it wouldn't open. I have tried a Word recovery software, that couldn't even pick up the document. Can't open it in wordpad either.
I've heard of Virtualbox but I don't have my Windows original CD's.
I seriously need to open this document.

You can email the file to me if you want and I'll extract the content for you if viewable in linux (should be).

Edit: or I could just try and remove the virus in linux.

Upload it to Google docs.

Chances are your PC is now infected if you restored & opened it w/ Avast disabled.

You could also create a Linux virtual machine in virtual box and try opening with Open Office (or whatever it is called).

Download & Create an Ubuntu Live CD,
Boot up, open document, copy text if it still exist to a new document
Save new document to your Windows Drive
Reboot back to windows.

Profit.
