hopefully heaven but probably hell
Hi i've installed windows vista (got it from work :)) and would like to know if anyone can suggest a free virus scanner that works with it.

AVG is a no go and there is not much support on grisoft site.

Other progs which have not worked thus far

Daemon tools :(
AVG :(
NERO
BW Meter
Kerio Firewall

these are like the most useful progs i need...

other progs seem cool.

aight -

got avg working, just downloaded the latest update and also did some windows updates.

:: edit ::

sweet - i see daemon tools has been updated for windows vista.

hehe, another good one to try for vista is Nod32. Works like a charm...

ic you meant that you want an anti-virus application - reading the thread title I thought you were intending to test whether Vista is more resilient than XP to malware attacks...:)

i think the virus is windows vista :D

anyway a new update got BW Meter to work now... simply reinstalled the prog and it seemed happy... YAY.

i think for now i am happy using windows firewall, Vista Ultimate comes with Windows Defender which seems determined to protect your machine - to such an extent it can become annoying.

Okay last on the list Nero. hrm... lets see.

Try Avast! Home Edition. Its free, works on vista.. Im running it on Vista Ultimate Build 6000. No problems.

Windows Live OneCare works like a charm, but you will have to get a standalone version to install it. It won't install directly from Microsoft's servers because it will tell you that it cannot find XP on your system.

I installed onecare for XP but uninstalled it again as it insisted on scanning all my drives weekly (cannot disable it).

Anyway AVG works fine with Vista, you just need to uninstal AVG and reinstal it. Windows Vista is the bomb and not slow at all.

It does help turning off some of the eye candy.

So far it has only crashed once, but that seemed directly related to MSN Messenger update of sorts. Been stable ever since.

Also using Office 2007 which I must admit is some outstanding work from M$.

Very nice products - but then i dont have to buy them and never would :D

i will wait for the release i got my coupon from xp pro

will prolly download office 2007 just because they charge to much :)

Bitdefender are releasing a Vista compatible version in Jan 2007. If you currently own a copy of 10, upgrade is free.
