seriously guys, if you know what you are doing (which a lot of MyBB users do), you don't need that anti virus junk.

Unless you disable all scripting and most functions in your browser you do know its possible to exploit browsers to automatically run 0 day exploits? What it does it when your browser visits the website, it injects a payload. Since you have no AV then the injection will go unnoticed. If you wanna I can see if you are vulnerable tomorrow? Setup a website, ask you to browse to it and see what happens?

When I tested SET and Armitage on local VMs, I was able to root the boxes running no AV, but the up to date VMs running AVs picked up and blocked my payload.

Having MSSE running in the backgound doesnt slow down my now 4 year old pc, 2 gig ram. But it is likely that all the other processes that windows insists on running contribute to slow pc's. Tweak your pc at blackviper.com and use google to find other tweaks from reputable tech sites.

Haven't had a virus in more than 10 years - then last week my PC's antivirus expired and a day later I catch this biatch of a trojan. Most likely unrelated, but the next day my mobo gets smoked.

Ditto, years without a virus and then - without changing my surfing habits (NO porn or crackz sites) I get a doozy that not only "eats" my desktop icons, but also stuffs up my internet speeds AND turns my monitor bright blue! Took 3 updated Virus scans to clear. I was about to ditch the desktop and buy a new computer thinking that the old girl was on her last legs. Crazy, evil, nasty virus.

You must uninstall older versions of java before you update it. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system.

None of those apps i mentioned are memory resident yet its more effective than a av. Avs are pathetic with script malware

Having an Anti-Virus Scan IS the virus.

I always use to have Anti-Virus Scan software running - and I always had:
- Pop-ups telling me of trojan this or Malware that, especially at Lans,
- Asking for permission every time a new program wants internet/etc.
- Made my computer slower because of a damn "Live Scanner" Running 24/7 checking everything first.
- Worries when I run a keygen/etc because of all the threats
- Warnings when I plug in a USB.


Now I just sit back and relax - no Virus Scanner Installed (for the past 5 years or something)

No Pop-ups, No Dialogues, Nothing Slowing my PC Down, No live Scanning, nothing, nada, zilch.
I run my cracks with 0 issues, I plug in a USB with 0 warnings, I get no "TROJAN DETECTED!" Dialogues, and my PC is not slow.


Anti-Virus Scan? You gotta be kidding me. No thanks.
If I ever do get a serious one I format and re-install, and should take me 40 minutes. simple. (never happens though)

You guys are the ones with constant Trojan Virus Popups, dialogues, warnings and needless stuff scanning your Pc 24/7.

I go to LAN's all the time - viruses do not spread by themselves through strong DC.
It's only when you start browsing other people's Shares in Windows explorer that you're gonna have a problem....

My cuzzie does the same as me, also has zero problems. (past 5 years now?) - he also goes to lans regularly.

Best advice my friend ever gave me was to partition your harddrive, installing only the operating system and your applications on the C drive, and formatting it every few months. No anti-virus required at all, and you can wipe your computer completely clean from any infection! That being said, it's a bit of a headache if you use a lot of specialized programs...

Many viruses will spread to your other drives and if it happens to be spyware chances are you would not even notice it is there.
But anyway, as long as you don't do any online shopping, banking or do not mind having your email accounts and other passwords sniffed, go for it.

I would suggest trying an anti virus on your box, just for interests sake (if the anti virus can even find viruses as many of them will make that impossible if you install an av after infection).

Viruses grew up, unlike the old days where a file executes and reproduce by hooking up with exe's they now much more sophisticated stand alone bastards from hell.

99% of the time people think they are clean because of safe practice and running an up to date Antivirus. You will be shocked to see how many Trojans slip past anti virus scanners even in live mode that was updated just 2 seconds ago. Unlike the old days where they where made with a payload they now just borrowing your CPU/Internet to do something somewhere else or designed to park on some IRC awaiting instructions(Botnet) with their feet planted so deep into the OS where not even Anti Virus software have permissions to scan.

You have to root/hack your own PC to see where the suckers hide and most of the times you will need to do it using a different OS. You can almost say that virii now evolved to the human equivalent, in the sense that they always there, you just notice it when they get out of hand or start showing symptoms.

As for reproduction, some of the little bastards now even upload themselves onto your Facebook with links and crap that your friends see and think is valid posts from you. (Example: Zeus)
