Need something to design a floor plan or layout of buildings with cameras etc etc for security

Would sketchup be good?

Definitely sketchup. That will also allow you to get a view from the camera perspective. It is also easy to use.

The one thing that confused me: if you want specific sizes of a shape you have drawn, just start typing numbers and it will resize (You'll see them change in the dimensions properties fields)

Using Visio would be madness. Madness.

I downloaded Sketchup but now where would you find templates for devices like cameras, tv's etc etc .
Visio is great that way, it has all the templates

Don`t be lazy

If you do it on scale and in 3d, you can match the lens size of the camera and see exactly what area it will cover.

Maby someone can elaborate how, but you can access thousands of pre-made stuff, or stuff that people made. i recall reading about some sort of 'warehouse'.

As jy dit in 3d doen, en die lens van die kamera op die sagteware aanpas by die lens van die sekuriteits kamera, sal dit ideaal wees om te sien watse area die kamera gaan optel.
