Hey guys,

I have a work colleague that is from India and his wife is stuck in India. He already had an application in but it has been over a year and they are just not doing anything (well typical home affairs). His wife had to travel to India due to a tragedy that happened that side but yeah they wont let her back in the country because her visa has expired.

Do any of you have a contact this side so he can get this resolved?

Ask him to go via e-permit route, it is allowed for Indian citizens as long as their seffrican documentation from her husband is accurate & complete. This has way better chances than other avenues. DHA is absolutely pathetic.

Thanks for the reply homie! He has tried this route but it is screwed. The website is not working and he got an email eventually from the IT department saying they have no ETA on the problem. Typical he also told me that over 100k people are waiting for replies to applications made a year ago. What a mess

I know many who have got visa within 3 weeks this way. Something is not right then.

I also know many who have got visitor's visa (very short term) as well. This needs to be done in one of the indian cities where VFS global offices are.

100K people is for relative visa & PR combined and definitely not for visitor's visa. Once she is here, she can apply for relative's permit and stay in SA on the basis of that. It is a bit of schlep but everyone is doing it due to useless DHA buggers.

Temporary solution:

They can meet each other in Gaborone?

And then next time in Swakopmund, and the next time after that on a beautiful beach in Mozambique. (But avoid the northern regions of Moz!)
I don't think he will take that risk because he has a young daughter here asking when mommy is coming back :crying:

It's time for him to move on, and then return here in future.

A while after the elections, obviously.

Help him understand that this is the way out:

Did she overstay her visa in SA and then left back to India?

My wife has renewed her spouse visa at DHA and we don’t expect to hear anything back until next year. As there is a backlog of 75k applications.

Maybe. It wouldn't have been intentional but yeah the backlog I am guessing.

Then she’s banned for 5 years from SA if she overstayed. International or not.

My wife is in the same boat. Her visa expires in October. So we are leaving before it does to avoid a ban.

Because the system they have doesn't work? OMG . He applied over a year ago. Where is your wife from?

Oh I missed that she applied over a year ago.

Then she won’t be banned - as she applied before march.

wife is from the UK.

I thought there is a blanket extension on Visas till December and if she travels with the receipt of visa application then there is no issue? There is a facebook visa forum run by immigration lawyers which is quite helpful.

Edit: https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/art...airs-extends-concession-for-56000-foreigners/

Correct but only if you applied before March. My wife applied in May.
