Anyone else experiencing problems while using vista and a wirless adsl router?
when using the router/internet and normal speeds it works fine.
But as soon as I download a file at full speed (+300kb/sec) My pc seems to disconnect from the router for a few seconds every once in a while.

I checked if the router was maybe being reset or disconnected, but no.

If I run the same setup in XP SP3 its fine.

Vista SP1 is what Im using btw.

Vista has loads of problems with 1% utilization of the network interface. Google a bit and you'll find a billion threads on the problem.

Doublecheck that you have the latest driver for your wireless card. Switch the channel on the router to something else. If you're really desperate, try disabling the media scheduling service as it hogs network bandwidth...might result in rubbish audio though.

Im on Vista SP1 and connected over wireless router and have had no issues. Normally when I have like a disconnect or something its on the router side (stupid cheap MSI 1)

I have a netgear, and its never let me down before.

I run the ping -t command on both an external ip address (dns server) and I ping my router at the same time. When I get the disconnection, I cant ping my router for the same amount of time.
Thats why Im thinking its vista/my router and not my adsl line.

I think I may have solved it.

I recently installed my netgear software tools that connects to my wireless router for me, instead of using vista's built in tools.
working like a charm ever since...

i still get intermittent problems with my wireless netgear pci card and vista.

i have to reset to card to get it to work correctly again.

no wonder there are no official drivers for netgear in vista!

I would also prefer to use Netgear's software rather than that of Windows. Windows does not have the best networking reputation, especially when it comes to Vista.
