this errorI was online with 2 microsoft technicians and a MS research fool. They had a remote connection to my pc,but for the living daylights:(they cant fix that error. My avg8(paid version)also dont work and gives me an error to check event viewer but sadly eventsviewer is problem,an mmc problem.
There is a fix i think which i researched but there must be an easier way.
I tried thisfirst.

But got a little scared when they said you must go through the list to find the fault, you know what i wanted to cry:sick::rolleyes:,Have you seen a log file that is produced from that

tried to copy the eventviewer files from another vista installation but the 2 files in system32 wont allow me to modify it.I done the ownership stuff but it seems that has made system32 a non modifying folder.

you also get the same problem if you start it from the run dialog box i presume. eventvwr.msc

yes i get the same error.I even tried to create a new account and in that one the same problem.
I guess a reformat is in order and reinstall sp1.
I dont know how to repair it ,even microsoft technicians dont know how, like i said they tried for 2 hours.
They have all my dumps and pc info and will get bak to me after analyzing.

yes gotta love it.btw installing xp on my vista drive now as we speak...Finally i just had enough. After a year or so vista has always been giving me problems. Now i cant really blame the OS,its my fault to.I should really get my pc components vista compatible .

I was going to suggest something like this but it doesn't apply to the event viewer.msc

Unregister then reregister the gpedit.dll file.
To do this, type these at a command prompt.
First, "regsvr32 /u gpedit.dll"
then, "regsvr32 gpedit.dll"

also another option might have been a system restore
