Vista & My HDD YET AGAIN!!!

Hi peeps. Ive posted a thread before about my HDD going crazy in Vista. You guys gave me very good advice, turning all those unwanted processes off and it worked... very well until recently.
Yet again my HDD doesnt stop flashing. I can leave the PC for 8 hours, come back and the lights still flickering. I checked the Resource Monitor, expecting svchost to be using my HDD and to my amazement its the "System", System Volume Information which is continually Writing on my HDD. upto 10mb/sec.

This cant be write surely? I cant play games, I cant do jack **** cause my HDD is continally being used. Im starting to get slightly mentally deranged from this.

I just cant understand how a OS can continally, 24/7 access ur HDD and do watever it wants on it. Really now. Microsoft get a life... and make something proper blerry fools.

Have u disabled windows search?

Try switch the machine off. all disk activity will stop.

Yip definitely off, one of the first things is switch off when I install vista.

I switch the machine off, go back on the fing and 10minutes later the HDD starts again

Right click C drive, properties, untick "Index this drive .."

Did that when I installed Vista a long tym ago.

Process Monitor will give you a much better view of what files it has open. Select View, Show Lower Pane from the menu and you see what files each process is accessing

Dude I spent my money of this OS, I cant not use it. That would be 3 Grand down the drain. Id rather deal with this crap than go back to XP.

Ive turned that off long ago... Dude killadoob I did everything you told me to do in that previous thread when I installed my Vista.... ive also found now When I install or Uninstall something, the HDD goes CRAZY for about an hour after it has completed the install or uninstall....

That's probably system restore - I get it too.

I also get the continuous disk activity thing, same as you describe in the OP. I've come to the conclusion that Vista has a built-in metronome, and is by nature a musical beast - it's just playing tunes to amuse itself while it's idle. It P****d me off for a long while, but now I just accept it.

Lol So I thought hey, just cant be fixed. Im just gonna have to deal with it and restart everytime I remove or add files to the HDD. sigh

Try switching AV, that's just a random answer, as AV doesn't thrash the disk like that unless it's scanning.

Only other possible thing I can think of is the hard drive may be faulty and on the way out, but that's plucking at straws.
