Hello guys

I've checked the forum & I do remember a thread mentioning that Vista doesn't recognize ram higher than 3gig. Please verify this as I've got 2gig @ the moment and I want to buy two more gigs.

Thank you in advance :)

No 32bit operating system can take more than 3.4GB of RAM. That is unfortunatly a flaw in the design of 32bit operating systems that cannot be fixed (not possible). If you want to have more than that amount of memory in your machine, upgrade to a 64bit OS.

In any 32-bit operating system, the virtual address space is limited, by definition, to the size of a 32-bit value

Here is the full explination why this is the case

Damn, wanted to buy that special @ BuyComputers. So the fourth ram is totally excluded yes? And is not used @ all?

No it's nothing to do with Vista. 32-bit OS's only support up to 4GB max, but can never quite use that full amount. You'll probably end up using just more than 3GB, if you ever need that much.

Vista 64 is your only option for 4Gb or more on MS, afaik they stopped supporting XP 64bit. It was terrible

Its will not be used at all. Its a 32bit thing. Also something to consider is that 32 bit apps and games can only use a max of 2GB in windows so even if you have a hectic game that needs all the resources that it can get it will not use the full 3.2gb available to windows.

Vista 64 bit can use 4gb but if you decide to go that route just make sure that your motherboard and CPU can really make use of the full 4GB. Mine cant due to BIOS bugs and a crappy cpu revision(even if its a 64bit cpu). Wasted some good booze money because of that :-(` ` ` `

Some people are happy with Vista 64bit and others hate it.. Personally I wont even bother trying it just to get full use of the 4GB.

Ja, address extension, basically what we were talking about anyway.

"However, Microsoft has pretty much abandoned PAE in the 32-bit versions of Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista."

What did you mean anyway? You're still stuck with around 3.2GB max on MS 32-bit.

EHV he possibly meant Linux which does have PAE kernels

Ja, why I keep saying MS 32-bit :p. The poster asked about Vista though.

I don't see the point of a one word post then asking people to look it up. He could post what he knows to help instead?

Ye 2GB vs. 4GB is not a very big difference, very similar actually . Google it, there's a good test that I think Tom's or someone does.

mre your telling me 2 gig and 4 gig is not much difference

i beg to differ its massive in vista

some game demo's like cod4 crysis use over 2.4 gigs of my system ram, now if i did not have 4 gig it would start using my pagefile which would slow my gaming down

running 2 gig on vista is like running 1 gig on xp, it works but not well

if you really want 4 gig memory get vista 64 bit

I will let you guys know latter whether 4 gig makes a difference in 32bit vista. Picking up a second pair this morning.:)

Hey, just goin by the review I read, no need to get riled up.

Vista needs all the help it can get.

My system was definitely more responsive after going up to 4G(seen as 3.2gigs).

im not, you just take all my posts like i do :)

Huh? All?? I think you replied to like 1 of my threads and acted poopy, I wasn't the only one who thought so. Apparently you've got a rep I'm told.
But this is obviously going to get me nowhere quickly, so I'll leave it that.

Some1 mentioned Vista is a waste of time .... lol I'm running 64x Ultimate and works like a dream. My friends PC (similar specs) feels like its crawling on XP. So, Don't bother making crappy comments bout Vista unless u're running it on a decent system and of course, an authentic copy :D
