Ive had this irritating problem for some time now and just cant take it anymore:

Initially my Vista 32 would sleep but not recover from the sleep (the fans would start up again but the screen never came back, and neither did windows as far as I can tell) and the only way to get back to work was by holding in the power button until it shut down and then starting the computer again. - Eventually I just set the thing to "Never Sleep" and moved on.

Now I have a similiar problem when I shut down the computer.

When I want to restart it powers on but noting more ever happens, the screen doesnt work and none of the usual sounds sound. It is the same thing as when recovering from sleep and once again I have to hard power down and then start again.

Effectively every time I want to start my computer I have to go through this whole mission of starting it, turning it off and turning it back on.

I have found many links to similiar problems on the internet but no solutions.

All my drivers are up to date and Im running onboard Intel graphics on an Intel motherboard.

Any and all advice would be much appreciated

Try the following to try and identify the culprit(s)

Run msconfig from start/run. in the startup tag, disable all items, then reboot and shutdown and reboot.

If the problems are still there then I haven't helped you :). If the problems are gone, try enabling a couple of items, retest as per above until problem returns, then eliminate until you have identified the problem item.
