Hey, i installed vista 64-bit on my PC yesterday and my microphones sound won't work anymore, i downloaded the latest drivers for my motherboard but still no sound, tried front or back mike jacks, anyone that can help?

Can't help... I had the same problem though with Vista on my desktop with 64bit, for some reason it thought the mic port was a speaker... I couldnt get it switched, eventually re-installed 32bit.

do you have onboard sound or a soundcard? Might need new soundcard drivers

onboard...
but it's a brand new motherboard, do i need to buy n soundcard?

Realtek or some such brand? Its a driver issue, you'll either need to find a working driver, or wait for one to be released.

yea go out and a buy a creative card for pci rather

they offer way better support for vista than onboard

Ok, thanx guys...
I'm gonna buy a soundcard, need the mic next week for gaming.
Thanks alot...

Onboard soundcards like Realtek do not have great drivers for Vista.
Download the latest sound drivers (HD audio codec and AC97 audio codec) from www.realtek.com.tw and not from your pc manufacturer site.
It should work - the only issue I have is that my volume knob doesn't work in Vista.

Huh... how can your volume knob not work in an OS. What do you mean?

On your speakers.. it's got to work, on your soundcard, I've never heard of that :p

i'm using a ASUS M2N SLi Deluxe motherboard, anyone know which sound drivers to download for the onboard soundcard for vista 64bit??
I looked at some soundcard prices and after paying alot of money for the motherboard i can't believe its sound doesn't work...

Talk about lazy :p

Look on the box or on the Asus site to see what onboard sound it has, then go to that manufacturers site and see if they have Vista drivers for the sound chip, otherwise try Asus's site.

Or just read it off and post it here, we'll do it all for you :D

Weird. Isn't it. This is a known problem with Realtek soundcards installed on Fujitsu Siemens laptops that originalley came shipped for WinXP and are not officially Vista certified.

WinXp - sound card works well - external volume control works well.
Vista - runs like a dream on the machine - updated Realtek drivers needed for sound to work - external volume control does not work.

I don't know how this works. Check this post for more insight:
