I searched for the IP/Version 6 setup used in Vista but found nothing, except on the net that it cannot be disabled
in Vista. I wonder if anybody knows here how to handle it.
I installed last week vista and I'm so far impressed with the OS. I did not upgrade from XP but build a new System with E6600 CPU 2 GB and two HD 320 Sata. Everything is working except I had to return the LG H42 drive because it did not read the Vista DVD and had to use an old DVD drive to install it. I replaced the DVD writer with a mecer drive which is also Vista compatible. So vista is giving me an unidentified Network for my local network. Anybody out who can help me here.

In Linux you run in "dual" mode, first ipv6 is queried, if it is unrouteable like here in South-Africa ipv4 is used for Internet. ipv6 is used on my lan but it is very quick to disable ipv6 if need be. ipv6 had a smaller delay with an encrypted tunnel I used.

I had a look at the Network & Sharing centre, but there is nothing really you can change. I tried with the setting of the two ip v4 & v6 but if I take the v6 out, I get direct disconnected from the broadband. My local is classified as unidentified network, my local are connected to 4 PC's and all run XP except this one running Vista . So it works but why now that IP v6 not like v4 where you can set 192.168.xxx.xxx there should be something similar for private addressing under v6 where you got to gave 25 digits seperated by : so, since at present my setup says broadband connected and I can access all computers on my LAN even if unidentified. But thanx for the replies

Somehow all is working the network & sharing centre shows muliple networks to the internet. The local shows limited ,but is not unidentified anymore, I also see a ip v6 address. all is working , but I'm really not sure how. I only played around and will wait until more detailed info becomes available. All in all it is fun.
