My laptop has Vista Basic installed. I'm not averse to Vista. And anyway, for whatever reason I can't seem to install XP on it.

But I would like to upgrade to Home Premium or Business. What's the easiest way to do this, without buying either of these two other editions. Can't you just use the disc you receive and input a different serial number (I heard that the disc is has all of versions installed but that the serial number affects what is actually installed). If this is so, where can I buy a serial for this.

Otherwise, can't I just connect to the internet and run some upgrade thing through the microsoft site?

Hey, any help here would be appreciated. I don't want to install any programs until I have the system I want in place.

Just in case, the specs on the laptop are as follows
32 bit architecture
4gbs of ram
2 x 320gig hard drives
Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz
8600m graphics card

ok do you have the disk
put it in and let pc start with booting dvd
Wait for the prompts from the disk and select install tab
it will ask which version you want to install, uncheck activate and serial key
Install your version you like without entering serial key.
Upgrade will follow, restart pc and you have 30days to put in serial key...simply better faster and good...goodbye..lol
