Vista VS Xp

If you got the machinery then Vista is very nice. Don't attempt this with less than 2GB folks, 4GB if you want to game.

I'm sorry but:

The tests, run on a Dell XPS M1710 test bed with a 2GHz Core 2 Duo CPU and 1GB of RAM

Is not good enough to run Vista. Yes, we all know Vista needs more RAM, etc, etc. Its like comparing a Pentium III running 98 with 256Mb RAM with the same machine running XP. It just ain't gonna work.

I think everyone is wrong imho.Vista needs 2 gigs but a fast processor is required and the ram must be =667 or higher, then we can start talking..lol

Look, every Windows operating system requires more and more hardware. XP was notorious for pushing RAM up to a Gig for decent gaming. Even now I struggle. So, double that for Vista is not such a shock. Processing also needs to increase. My old 3500+ struggles with XP and some games :/

EDIT: Sorry, that should read XP and some games, NOT Vista. My poor AMD would die if I installed Vista. :p

Running Vista Home Premium 64Bit on AMD X2 4200+ with 3Gig DDR400 RAM and an 8800GTS card. Motherboard is an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe.

Re-installed Vista over the weekend after buggering around with it before. Left it to update on ADSL512 and when I came back and installed updates everything was up and running perfectly.

All that was left was to install latest Nvidia drivers which I downloaded from Nvidia site. So far I have no complaints with Vista :/ and my PC is quite old apart from the RAM. Already had the 8800GTS for at least a year now I think and the board and processor is probably 2 years old and still fine.

At the moment I am re-playing Orange Box Half-life 2 on 22" Wide Screen at high res :D
