If what you want it to do has a package included, othewise sorting out the dependencies takes longer than installing Vista.

I had this bug with Vista as well when I still used a Nforce 4 chipset.

I'm on a Nforce 680i now that works flawlessly. No other operating system allows me to copy between my 2 raid arrays at over 125MB/s. XP only does bout 90MB/s on the same drives.

I think Nvidia is to blame.

I use to run XP, I also fix PCs for friends, a Linux PC takes less than an hour to install and configure everything. One script only. I have over 500mb in development source code, beryl, quake3, mplayer and such, never had a dependency apt-get build-dep package did not cover. You never need apt-get build-dep unless you are a developer, so a normal user will never use that command.

If you can find something I can guarantee you the software ain't worth installing anyway.

On my nForce4 motherboard, CK804 I copy at over 100mb/s . I have a Linux software raid (2x80G) and a 300G.

Am not trying to convince you Linux is a realistic alternative, it is. I'm bragging while Vista users turn back to XP, which is 5 years old now. It is ancient.

i'm sure all the different games work wonderful on Ubuntu without DX!. :D

Nobody said they want to turn back to XP, i'm certainly done with XP as good as she is!
Ontop of that, this thread is about the Vista error, not about convincing us to use Linux over Vista - open a new thread and state your case there!. Perhaps then i'll come ask advise because as far as i'm concerned Linux is too much trouble to get working! Nuff Said!.

Never had any issues with SuSE 10.x, is downloading OpenSuSE 10.2 atm.

My wife prefers SuSE above XP, dunno why... :D
