Vlanning reccomendation...

The means of connecting the 2960 switch to a single/multimode fiber is by using a tranceiver, as Cisco calls it. There you have two options: 100-FX, which costs R1700 or a 1000-LX, which costs R7000. You would require three, which would thus be R5100 and R21000 respectively, excluding the switch.

However, I cannot see whether the 1000-LX is compatible with the 2960. There are no generic 1000-LX tranceivers for the 2960, only the 2970.

We have 3x Netgear fibre converters that give us cat3 gigabit ethernet from the fibre links, sorry, I don't have the stuff infront of me, and fibre is a bit new to me for now.

I am sort of leaning towards building a linux box with something like RouterOS to DIY this task, to save money.

HP switches also do VLANing... can't remember which model specifically, but we've just switched all the Cisco stuff out for HP at my offices.

Perhaps you're thinking of the procurve range? I'll check that out too.

Since the equipment is expensive, and it's basically an upgrade/new infrastructure I want to take my time (since I'm not under pressure haha) and do it nice from the start.
