I never used VLC primarily. Used to use other players and Sodaplayer for casting to my Chromecast.
Upon "wanting" a playlist feature in Sodaplayer (and hearing of their snooping), I Googled a bit this week and found out VLC 3 supports Google Chromecasts now.
If you are on Windows, make sure Network Discovery is turned on in Network and Sharing Centre.
You don't have to enable file and printer sharing or change any other settings.
Open a playlist or video.
Click Video and choose Renderer > Your Chromecast.
If you were aware of it. Cool. If not, hope you find it useful.
There's a definite performance boost in comparison to Sodaplayer.
