Hello everyone,

Since about 3 weeks ago, I keep on getting "SIM card rejected" or "No service" on my VM prepaid SIM. I placed the SIM in various cellphones, but still the same error. Sometimes when I restart the phone everything is OK. I phoned VM "support", but all the lady did was take my personal info, and told me that the technical/data dept will get back to me in 24 hours.

Needless to say, that 24 hours was 3 weeks ago  There is still about R30 on the SIM (which I only use for GPRS data) which I don't want to loose.

Any ideas?

Thanx!

:(
Yes, I also had a connection problem with VM a few days ago.

Data\technical department never contacted me about an error message with my data card. I fixed the problem myself - was not a VM problem but still ?????

Yes they also asked me for personal details (ID number).

Think there is something wrong with that simcard of yours - I think they will give you a new one.

My first thought was that they somehow "disabled" the SIM just so that I should phone them so they could get my ID number...

Since it is a pre-paid SIM, do you think they will really give me a new one?

I've had this a few times, but not recently. When I reported it, they recommended I ask for a new sim in a "Welcome Back Pack". I really really really recommend you go to a big Musica where they have a Virgin team. They stock some blank sims which they can activate for you. There is NO charge and they are better than some of the lazy VM staff who will probably never call back.
Good Luck!

Speak to Gerald at VM and he will replace it i'm sure. I had a problem and they couriered a 128k sim to me no charge

I had the same problem on my little Nokia 5100, I couldn't sms, couldn't receive calls, everything went to voicemail.
I'm not sure which phone you have, but I manually selected Vodacom as the preferred network. That sorted things out ;)
It's a bit tough if you can't do it due to the fact that the sim doesn't register. I don't know a workaround for that.

If you have another phone, phone VM on 074 1000 123

I have a Samsung D 900 and it does exactly the same thing, everything goes to voicemail. How do u get onto Vodacom? Sorry this 58 year old dude is a bit dof when it comes to these things:D

Nope, did not work :( "No access" on Vodacom/Cell C (Nokia 6610)

I don't have the patience to speak to VM support again

I'm not sure Mr, 58 year old dude ;) I changed mine in the phone settings. Setiings>phone setup>network selection>manual>vodacom.

Give it a shot, maybe it's the same :p

No need to speak to VM support just speak to Gerald, he is the main man at VM and he does get things done, he's a doer not a talker!!!!
What a difference of opinion! Personally, I've never met such a talker and NON-DOER in all my life.

He's done NOTHING he's promised me.

He's helped almost everyone here on this board, so give it a shot and write to him and you may be in for a surprise

When he delegates then that's where the problem lies

So it's the 'no follow-up' problem? Still a management problem then if he's not doing it.
Yes, as I said before, I've contacted him several times. Still no change.

VM does steal airtime

I have a similar problem, loaded a new VM SIM with a fair amount of airtime which has now become unusable.

Seems the airtime window works only in one direction. They will zero you're account and make it impossible for you to call or make a data connection, but somehow other people will still be able to call you. (This is money in the bank)

So the moral of the story is that you should not load to much airtime on a VM SIM, because if you don't recharge for 3-months you're airtime will be gone.

I realise that this is a measure to keep the freeloaders off the network, but this was a neat little solution I put together for a low bandwidth user. (The type that only rarely uses the net.)

Other networks do something similar, but it is related to non-activity on the network. This is purely related to the fact that you have to give Virgin money every 3-months or they disconnect you.

I'm not even going to say how much time I wasted on this matter. But it took 4 calls to the call centre to get and sort of info.
