i am trying to get my e620 datacard to work with the VM sim to be able to use EDGE. I can get the VM sim to work in my SE W800i and use the phone as a modem-- that works just fine and the connection is OK.
When i use the VM sim in the E620 I get an error 619A.
PS its about time VM assigned someone to look after these forums. I have found more about how to configure the W800i from myadsl forums than from the callcentre, who although they mean well and have tried to the best of their abillity have not yet helped me. Come on VM - you are supossed to more customer centric and pro consumer and all that cool stuff- this forum is where like such minded people meet.
That 619A error is famous. I use a Vodacom pre-paid sim in my MTN E620 datacard at home (no MTN EDGE and 3G) and got that same error yesterday at some stage. Late the evening I got back on. It will be great if someone can tell us what error 619A stands for. I get the impression it's got to do with the authentication server as it pops up right at the end of the connection process.
What I cant work out is why i can connect using the W800 and cant using the E620. i have set the APN to vdata, fiddled with other settings and tried setting the Ip adress. The AT string that i used for the W800 made the difffernce when I was trying to set it up. the E620 does not seems to have any place for you to insert an AT string.
I also can't wait for the VM sims to work on the various datacards. Maybe the VM sims have been programmed not to work on the VC and MTN datacards - with VM preparing its own broadband campaign - aiming to capture current MTN and Vodacom data subscribers with very low rates - and forcing users to buy into VM's own branded hardware.
that would really peeve me as i have just gotten my datacard from another provider as Vm or Cell C dont dont offer one at all.
your theory might be correct. i was told yesterdat that Vm dtata services would give me call and nobody called. this morning I was told the same thing and as yet there has been no call. I wonder if they are not calling becuase they know they cant help me get the VM sim working in my datacard.
If that is the caase there are two possible answers-- they are busy fixing a problem-- lets hope that is the answer
or they dont want to fix the problem, they want to sell us something else and lock us into buying from them. This does not sound like the gospel being preached by them right now. hope it does not become the gospel though.
Just had a call from VM data services. After trying the AT string on the modem, which did not work i was told the following.
We are having problems with our SIMS in datacards. The problem lies with the SIM. They are defective. We have already ordered new SIMS, they should be arriving in two weeks time max. We will give swop out your SIM free of charge, and will contact you when they arrive to do the swop.
Ok so that the problem -- lets hope they stick to the two weeks and free swop. Its been a very frustrating couple of day here trying to get it to work.
VM where is your rep of these forums. How come I must tell this forum instead of you?!!!
Thanx Wynsam. For as long as VM fails to comment here people will make up their own ideas - even conspiracies - and it's all at VM's expense. Fot their own good they should get someone to respond to concerns/questions/comments on this forum.
I really hope the defective SIM story holds and replacements will be done. Releasing defectice SIMs is not a good start.
Like I commented on the Motorola Q thread (under MTN) it amazes me that things aren't properly tested before release. Shouldn't someone have tested a few SIMs in commonly used datacards before they were distributed? Or is everything done in a rush at the last moment - for the customer to sort out afterwards? I don't expect problems like this from a company like Virgin who's daring the big boys for a fight. They start the fight and then dicover they've left their gloves at home.
