Hi Guys,

Just looking for some advise.

I am planning on certifying my skills for VMware. I use the product daily and have learned a great deal since I've started with it.
Is it possible to just to write a VMWare exam without attending classes much like you can write Microsoft exams with out attending classes?

Obviously I will have to get study material to prepare for the exam. I plan on doing this http://www.torque-it.com/Docs/Outlines/VMWare/VM-ESX5.pdf

Or are classes mandatory for VMware?

EDIT;
VMware classes are Mandatory. Also, I have discovered that I can do the fast track course as I already have experience with VMware.

The classes are mandatory.

If you already use VMWare on a daily basis then you won't really be learning much more in the 5 day long course. What I found more useful about it was the discussion points that came up, as there were a number of people at different levels and sizes of implementations so there was quite a bit of knowledge exchange. IMO that course could be condensed into 3 days for people with existing VMWare experience, not sure if anyone boot camps it yet but that would be the option I'd take now if it was available.

Im not certain what the course ware covers, but if it doesnt cover networking I would strongly advise doing a networking course.
When we have issues with VM's, its almost certainly a vlan tagging issue or an issue on their virtual switch.

It becomes quite frustrating trying to explain this to a VM guy if he doesnt understand how things work

Other than that, good luck!

Can't see how you can manage a vm environment if you don't understand networking.
