Hi all
I am busy running an evaluation version of vmWare Workstation - virtual machine.
It looks fantastic and is easy to install and setup. I am going to use it for testing of various apps on different operating systems etc.

I'd like to know anyones thoughts on this software - pro's and con's etc.

Thanks in advance.

I've just implemented a DR system using VMware with a mix of OS's. No problems relating to running on VM rather than native were encountered. We used a few hosts servers running a mix of virtual servers, up to 4 each and the virtual machines, admittedly running under a lightish load, perform as well as the live site. We are embarking on a project to look at consolidating the servers on the live network into a few boxes.

One of the main rationals in going VM route is that the DR site is now hardware an OS agnostic, which makes it a very cost effective solution - don't have to buy two bits of hardware ever time a change takes place.

If it means anything, I highly recommend VMware [workstation], although I don't recommend buying a Windoze VMware license - rather go for the Linux version: M$ Windoze is an inherently insecure platform, and there is no licence migration path between Windoze VMware & Linux VMware, so rather go for the Linux version from the start.

Thanks

Thanks all - much appreciated!

Especially the podcasts - fantastic source of information for a novice like me.
