Hi all!
I posted this yesterday, but my post seemed to have disappeared. Cant find it anywhere...so here goes...again...
I am interested in taking out a 500mb/month contract with Vodacom. I am looking to get the usb "memory stick" type modem, not the Huawei modem with the cable. I am not sure which of the usb modems is better. The current options from Vodacom are as follows:
1. black Novatel
2. white K3520
3. white K3715
What are the differences between them? In terms of performance and HSPDA speeds, which is better? Nr 3 seems to be the latest, with a built-in MicroSD slot. I use the internet for browsing and mail, not much streaming and downloads. Also I will be using this on a Apple Mac.
I currently connect via bluetooth with my P1i...there is no data suite available for Mac
And this is what causes me so much headaches. I tried connecting using the data cable, but that didnt work. Unless someone can advise me on how to do this. Vodacom helped me set up the connection via bluetooth.
This connection is not very stable. It will work fine for days on end, and then it just wont connect. Sometimes the P1i just shuts down while connected via bluetooth, even on a full battery. I can only switch the phone back on again after I take the battery out. And then its a mission connecting again. The bluetooth connection seems fine. Both devices can see and browse each other...just the internet connection is dodgy
After many reboots, the connection sometimes works again. I got the P1i specifically to use it as a modem. Works out cheaper at R189 for 500mb. I love my P1...but only their software is so buggy. Last time I ever get a SE product...cant wait for my contract to expire early next year
So I figured it will be better to get the USB modem, and not have these connection issues, especially when I need to do something on the internet urgently. This is getting so frustrating
Any help/suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!
Mo
