Hi, I have a new Vodacom 3G modem and us it on my laptop with Win 7

I also have a PC and on the PC is a wireless modem and the laptops in the house connects to the PC via wireless.

I cannot get both connections to work at the same time. If one works, it works well but the moment the other one is switched on the weaker one is ignored.

The wireless is normally the better connection.
If I work on the internet I disconnect the wireless otherwise the 3G wont work.
But if I want to print something on the PC I first have to switch the wireless on again before I can print and have to switch it off again afterwards otherwise 3G wont work.

Is there a way in this new Vodacom 3G software where I can switch this "better connection" thing off or tell it to allow both connections at the same time.

If your modem is supported disabled VMC and give MDMA a go. Depending on your modem model you can also try the manufactures generic dashboard.

Yes you can disable "Better Connection" on the VMB software.

Assuming you're using VMB version 10. Open up the VMB software and click on Advanced. Now on the ribbon the first button is labelled "Off" is to disable "Best Connected". Then also disable under Connection Types: LAN & Wi-Fi. So that only Mobile is selected.

After that you might need to restart VMB.

I have the same problem, posted a thread about it a while ago but can't find it now. The best connected isn't the issue, even if it is disabled, it still can't connect to both networks at the same time. It must have to do with VMB now showing as a 'wireless' network so Windows has a difficulty deciding on routing when connected on both wifi networks. It is quite frustrating having to be off wireless to use 3G and off 3G to access computers through the wireless network.

You are right, it is not the best connected or the Vodacom software. Even if I exit the vodacom program and connect via Win7's connection manager directly I still have the same issue. If both are connected I cannot use the Internet and I cannot print. (3G on laptop, printer on PC) if I disconnect wireless which is on PC then I can use 3G on laptop but cannot print. If I then disconnect 3G and connect wireless then I can print on PC. Whether I connect directly or via the Vodacom software I still have the same problem.

I also had the same issue using Globetrotter software on a netbook.

Didn't know how to get passed it either :/

Ah ha! Got it - I am currently connected on 3G and accessing data over WiFi.

Here's what I did:

  • Disconnect from Vodafone Mobile Broadband and close the application.
  • Open "Network and Sharing Centre"
  • Open "Set up a new connection or network"
  • Choose "Set up a dial up connection"
  • Choose the Vodafone Mobile Broadband Modem
  • Enter the phone number as *99# (don't know if this is necessary)
  • Connect to 3G and WiFi and you're on!
