Hi,

I'm using a Mikrotik 411u with a Sierra PCI express card for 'n backup 3g connection. If the router is connected I get speeds around 2.6Mbps download and 1.2Mbps upload, which is working very fine for me.

It happens quite often (about 10 times a day or more) that the 3G connection drop. Then it "try" to connect for in some cases more than a hour. I've tested my max MTU using the technique as explained on http://www.dslreports.com/faq/695. It is set on 1400, but leaving the problem still there.

What else could be the problem? the signal strength indicates -79dBi - -85dBi
This 3G router is situated near Ellisras in Limpopo

any help please!

Perhaps try and switch your setup to 3G only mode. If the signal gets a bit two week it will make a switch to GPRS/EDGE and many times when it does that the connection bombs out.

I had a similar problem. Constant disconnects and slow speeds intermittent with spots of relatively fast service. After more than 5 calls to vodacom I finally found the solution somewhere on this forum.
Go buy an MTN prepaid card. I'm serious. My service is slightly slower than the highs vodacom gave but I haven't had a disconnect since. None.
