I'm trying to help someone setup a 3G connection on a laptop (Running Windows 7 Home 32bit). He bought a G3570-z modem but no matter what I do I can't get the software to work (Vodafone Mobile Broadband).

The version they gave with the modem is 10.1 lite. I have also tried downloading 10.0 normal but that doesn't work either. It keeps saying SIM not recognized. I have phoned vodacom about 2 days ago but they haven't called or anything with a solution.

At times I have gotten the software to see the device and SIM, so I can check balances but the software itself won't let the modem connect to the internet, it just keeps saying connecting 3G: Vodacom.

The only time I can get it to connect to the internet is if I control + alt + del and end the vodacom program under processes and then connect through windows internet setup.

I would really like to get the software to work for him instead of making him use a dialup connection and have to take the SIM out of the modem, put in into a phone in order to check balance and recharge.

Have you tested the modem on another computer?

No. I havent tried it on another pc, but I think its more likely that its a software or sim related problem. I'll try it on another pc when I get home this afternoon though

The version available on the web is the same version that comes with the modem :(

This is really such a pain...

Well, the guy that bought the modem went back to the store and got a new sim card. Hopefully this will fix things for him. Will post after I have tested it

Inserted the new SIM and bam. Problem solved. 2 days of struggling only for it to be fixed by 'n new SIM

Thx for all the suggestions though.

As for where he got it, I believe it was at Hi-fi Corporation
