So Vodacom announcers today that it launched it’s 5g anything you guys can add ? To this let me know your thoughts

Problem is, most phones in SA don't support 5G anyway.

Even the S20 Ultra's recently launched were all S20 Ultra LTE+ version

All good and well to launch a 5G service, but the majority of South Africans do not have a 5G capable devices. And to offer 200GB + 200GB 5G service at +- 300mbps is not going to last a whole month for most people. I know of many people on Rain 5G that uses 1.5TB to 3TB per month. My usage on Unlimited Off Peak (R250.00) was 922GB for April - and that was just streaming like Netflix, Xbox updated and downloads (considering game downloads and updates are anything from 50 - 100GB per game) working from home, updates and downloads on devices, it is easy to hit 1TB per month at 4G or 5G speeds. Vodacom must seriously overthink this one and offer much higher usage caps (like 500GB or 1TB) on 5G service - or else data is depleted early in month - it will not work for most people.

Agreed. The data restrictions at that speed is firetrucked.

i stream everything and have a 6mpbs wisp, currently average around 450GBs per month. This 400GB on 5G will probably be depleted by the 15th each month

Possibly earlier.... You have to remember good streaming services like netflix and youtube adjusts the bitrate based on your speed.. so at 6mbps, it's unlikely YouTube even attempt full 1080p @ 60fps.

Throw in a 40mbps+ connection (or 100mbps + on 5G), YouTube etc, will notice you're blazing fast connection and automatically scale up to 4K without you even realising. 30 mins of 4K and there goes like 3-5% if your Vodacom monthly cap.

It's slow, capped, expensive and coverage is not what the map say it is.

Proof:

No coverage here

with which device could you get 5G?

with which device could you get 5G?

I have my Huawei 5G CPE Pro H112.-370. Any device that Supports NSA 5G band N78 will work on Rain 5G, Vodacom 5G and Liquid Telecoms 5G

Vodacom does not have a 5G license allocated yet....or frequency bandwidth in the 5G spectrum yet... they run on Liquid Telecom /... formerly Neotel 's license and Network. They lease the 5G network much the same they do with Rain for 4G expansion but with 4G Vodacom do have alot of very good Vodacom / Siemens run sites..Vodacom runs on mostly Siemens Telcoms equipment and BTS radios etc. To get a proper 5G rollout ANY company running 5G equipment needs 3-5 years to get a proper 5G network where the handsets CPE s can become mobile ...CPE (Client Premises Equipment) is fixed now IMEI/ MAC addressess locked to individual antennas etc ..due to the scarcity of antennas. wont really work well with 5G enabled mobile phones moving in and out of coverage areas..your phone will default to 4G when moving too far from Antenna site or out of 5G coverage area... thats why there isnt a mobile option open to anyone yet? the nature of 5G is that the signal penetration is way less than 4G. so for now most people will be stuck with CPE s for a while.... and anyway very few people can afford a 5G phone / mobile handset the cheapest one available at the moment is a R14 000 from LG..... Samsung S20 5G handsets start at R17500-R20000 and are hard to come by maybe a bit more expensive now with the rand going to ****. @ Ockie..yes maybe were holding them wrong :) FOOTNOTE: BTW im on a 5G CPE and are satisfied with what is and will be in the initial stages of ANY 5G rollout (by Rain) a very testing time to reach optimum operatability. I use way over 1TB PER MONTH FOR R999 UNLIMITED DATA... BEST DEAL OUT THERE IF YOU CAN GET A STABLE THROUGHPUT.. WHICH I HAVE ,.BUT OTHER MAY FIND THIS FRUSTRATING.2G AND 3g HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS EVEN ON VODACOMS ROLLOUT OF THOSE NETWORKS.
