So can anyone guide me what hoops I have too jump through in order to connect via 5G on my new phone?

Vodacom agents have told me the following stories in my attempts so far.

1) there is no 5G service yet
2) I must agree to takes out a brand new contract with a 5G compatible device, my device being 5G compatible is irrelevant. The service cannot be activated post upgrade and it's my fault for not asking for 5G. Try again in 24 months.
3) the same as number 2 except it's contract dependant and not device dependant.
4) it should work, we don't know why.
5) loadshedding has broken 5G


Please can anyone here help? I'm in the Sandton area and within the red coverage zone.
 
Vodacom needs to add the 5G service if it's not enabled yet. They also enable vowifi and volte at the same time.

If your phone is 5G capable it will work.

082 135 and the virtual assistant Tobi have consistently routed me to people who believe that is absolutely impossible
 
082135 was able to add it on my top up contract. My prepaid sim worked automatically.

If you have a contract just ask them to add the 5G service add on so 5G can work.
 
I called them - they proceeded to tell me that it is active - so the problem must be on my iphone.

Enable 5G, Put it on airplane mode for 30s. Try a speed test.

You have to ask customer care to activate it if it doesn't work automatically.

Had to ask twice, just depends on if you get a clued up agent.
