A friend who has a Vodacom prepaid SIM forgot to activate international roaming before leaving SA about 10 days ago. She has a UK SIM for local needs, but needs to be able to get SMSes on her SA SIM for online banking. Opinion in a thread on the Vodacom community forum seems to be divided as to whether activation while overseas is possible. Anyone got any personal experience of doing so or suggestions?

Does ur friend bank with FNB/ Absa? If he's linked on the phone app that could be an alternative if the Vodacom thing doesn't work.

Contact Vodacom via Twitter. Let them call your international number and activate over the phone. I did it this way when my mom's roaming wasn't working overseas

Look here for your answer: http://www.vodacombusiness.co.za/business/solutions/mobile-and-voice/international-roaming
Hope this of value

From your friends UK number, she should dial +2782111 ( note she will be charged international rates). Once she gets through to a consultant, she should ask for international roaming. If she gets the security questions right, they will activate it for you.

PS they are deadset on it not working if the sim isn't on Vodacom home network, but trust me, it works (have personally done it)

Thanks, all. I have sent the info to my friend, and will see how far she gets. I'll report back if there is any new info on the process.
Ivanr, that link shows what she should have done, and has done in the past, but this time she forgot.

Report back:
My friend tried the number Oxymoron gave, and as he said it is at international rates and used 3 GBP in a flash, so she gave up on that idea. They then took Daiyaan's advice and contacted Vodacom via Twitter direct message and explained the situation. VC phoned my friend on her overseas SIM, asked many security questions, and told her to wait an hour and then reboot her phone. She did, and it worked, so all good, and thanks again for the suggestions.
