I got an extra contract (weekender) so that I could get a new phone, my old phone broke midway through my current contract.
The theory was that I would use the new SIM to make calls after hours to family etc.. this did not really work as I ended up getting tonnes and tonnes of free minutes that I never used.

Then I thought of transferring the airtime off the new SIM on to my existing contract (topup), the service says that you can transfer R100pm. So half expecting it to work I tried and the transfer succeeded. My other phone was credited with R100 and the free minutes on my weekender contract had 100 minutes less.... so it seemed to work ! Then I get the bill for the weekender contract and it has and extra R100 on it !

How the hell does that work ? They take the airtime AND bill you for the amount ?? And its not only me... I suggested the same thing to my brother and he also got the bill WTF.

I'm going to try fight with VC this weekend but this is just a warning to anyone else that wants to use the service

Where did you see that? Free minutes are not cash airtime and have no rand value. There is no way that they can be transferred.

Have you phoned Customer Care to lodge a billing query? Airtime transfer is not supposed to dig into your free minutes - give them a call and ask them to look into it :)

I'm very surprised.
Top up contract AIRTIME cant be transferred, unless airtime that is loaded is transferred.
Transferring of FREE MINUTES, never heard about it.
transferring minutes from 1 contract into airtime of another contract, now that I really doubt as possible.

I have been complaining about this for literally years. Free minutes cannot be transfered. At all. Ever.

In terms of airtime, prepaid airtime can be transfered. TopUp bundled airtime cannot be transfered for free. (loadabuddy will charge you R15 for every R12 you transfer, but at least it works). If you are on TopUp then you can transfer HALF of any ADDITIONAL prepaid airtime you BUY, for free.

I cannot believe that they deducted the free minutes from your account - it never worked at all when I tried it. You should just have been billed the R100 onto your normal account - which also sucks.
