See this Link for device list https://www.vodacom.co.za/personal/main/ltesupporteddevices. The LTE Routers Vodafone Huawei R210 and B2000 are currently being network tested by Vodacom before releasing on dates unknown at this stage so I have been told. The original post I removed because of LTE Device list errors by Vodacom.
Just my thoughts - If Vodacom is run the big brother Vodafone in the UK who have been using these routers then why re-test these routers? This is very strange to me.

Why ?

Ok, so I will continue.

Vodacom, LTE should work on the iPad4, it supports 1800MHz LTE.

So when are you going to allow LTE on Top Up contracts and prepaid ?

I also ordered an E398 that supports 1800MHz LTE.

But no joy from Vodacom, and no way in hell will I ever sign an open-ended mobile data contract !!!

E398

I ordered 3 x E398u-11 and they don't work on Vodacoms LTE network, 3G and EDGE does however work, I have a data contract with LTE activated.

I am still trying to confirm why it is not compatible

You need to change the APN the the LTE APN. Have you done this? Does this device support LTE 1800mhz?

I ordered an E398 from Amazon, and it does support LTE 1800, and I can see Vodacom LTE under Manual Network search.

But it will not connect because the sim is not LTE enabled, and Vodacom refuse to enable it (Top Up Contract).

BTW, my E398 (Telekom Speedstick LTE version) does not support 900MHz UMTS, or 2100MHz LTE, so it is useless for Cell C - just be warned when you order one of these.

As far as I know, Vodacom LTE is only available on contract right now.

How do I connect to the LTE network?
If you are an existing Vodacom Contract customer, you can request the LTE service to be activated on your SIM card. Currently, Prepaid and Top Up customers cannot access the LTE service, but we are working on extending LTE to all our customers in 2013.

And strange that MTN LTE is only available on one type of TopUp contract. Some bundle with a Samsung Galaxy Tab LTE.

http://www.mtn.co.za/Support/Legal/TermsAndConditions/Pages/LTE.aspx

(their LTE page seems to be broken)

3.1 LTE VAS is only available as a bundled deal with the MTN 2GB (two gigabyte) TopUp package.
6.1. The LTE Promotional Packages are currently only available and operational when used in conjunction with a Samsung P7320 8.9” LTE Galaxy Tablet (the “LTE-capable Device”).

Hmmm, so LTE is available on Cell C prepaid and MTN Top Up.

But on Vodacom it is supported on neither prepaid nor Top Up ???

Don't you believe me?

Lets say we have experienced Vodacom's profiteering for many, many years, and as a result, are rather cynical ...

That is you have know for a while that your system does not work, and have made little effort to fix it. Now LTE is here, you have no option, but as only a small area is covered by LTE, it is not a major issue - to- morrow is another day ... of Africa Time, and Vodacom are making record profits so whats the rush. With the collusion between MTN and Vodacom, there is not enough competion yet ... , but it is coming, albeit slowly ... , and people have memories that last a long while ...

Your post is so wrong and factually incorrect, on so many levels, I don't even know how to answer you.

In any case, my question was for Jola.

Well, I guess that it could conceivably be true, but nobody else seems to have that particular problem.

So your Business Analysts / System Designers must have screwed up badly here.

I've not personally checked but you say you can buy prepaid and Topup LTE from 8ta, Cell C and MTN?

Cell-C have a pre-paid package, R2999 for Huawei E3276 + 100GB data
http://www.cellc.co.za/deals/lte/lte-launch-offer
LTE doesn't appear to be available on regular pre-paid and top-up though

MTN apparently have a limited (1000 packages only) promotion until 31 March 2013 on their 2GB Topup (contract) package only
Only available when used with a Samsung P7320 8.9" LTE Galaxy Tablet
Costs: R799 per month for 12 months or R1499 per month for 6 months
(I can't figure out if this price even includes the device)

8ta must still be running their trial since the MyBB conference, I couldn't find any information on their website

I was referring to Cell C and MTN, maybe I generalised too much (by ignoring 8ta, but everyone knows that they are on a limited trial, and using a funny frequency).

BTW, the sales manager at Sandton City Cell C informed me yesterday that all the 100GB bundles are LTE provisioned, I am not sure that I believe him, I will check that out for myself.

Normal Cell C sims are definitely not LTE provisioned, and also not the Giga200 bundles, according to the manager.

I have a portable mifi LTE device, the Huawei E589, so I may pop over to Benmore to check Cell C LTE with a variety of Cell C sims. I have already checked the 100GB that came with the bundle, that works with LTE, and I have checked a normal sim with a 3GB for-a-year bundle on it, and that did not work on LTE.

Of course, due to the issue discussed above, I cannot do any Vodacom LTE testing, even though I have the devices and the Vodacom LTE reception.

As a matter of course I have to state that as far as I am concerned Vodacom does not have LTE, and Cell C does, even though the Cell C LTE suffers from poor coverage (although they do cover most of the areas that I regularly go to, eg Umhlanga, Cape Town, etc). In my case, at least, Vodacom effectively has zero coverage.

BTW Jannie, instead of being so disingenuous with all your defensive strategies, why not just fix the problem ?

I am sitting with three Vodacom 2GB Top Up contracts that I can hardly use because of this issue (normal 3G gets too congested).

Edit : Oh and hell will freeze over before I get one of your uncapped OOB contracts.

Sums it up nicely ...

Thanks

Who says we're not 'fixing' it? Or, more accurately, doing the required integration work?

The point I'm trying to get across is that it's easier to ask than to speculate and come up with complex conspiracy theories.

Occam's razor, and all.....
