OK, I am really getting annoyed now...

First Vodacom's "Internet" APN could do tracert fine, then it stopped working giving me something like this:

Using the "InternetVPN" APN still worked though but NOW for some reason it is the same on both giving me the request time-outs...

Why is this happening and what can be done to fix this? And my ping speeds are all over the place, one day 280ms international and the next it is 500ms!?

This has been like this now for a few months and I can't take it anymore.

I have this problem with the Tracert not working with both Vodacom and VM. I Suppose MTN is the same.

it was a 196.x.x.x IP. If you need the complete IP I will only be able to give it to you after 16h00 when I'm back home, I don't work in the same area.

ATM I am at my office, the IP assigned is 196.46.175.106 but its doing the same where I cant run tracert to any server and I am using InternetVPN

Request time out????

Is there more people who gets this, or is it only me?
8 months back I was still using ADSL but had to change to 3G when I moved to another town. With ADSL I could do a tracert and get fair results on each hop.
With the Vodacom 3G it has never ever been successful. I always get something like the one below. The one below is probably the best one I had so far because at least it have something to show in the beginning, mostly it is all time out until you get to the server.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>tracert www.hilux4x4.co.za

Time out

If perhaps you do not know what we talk about, do the following and paste your results here:
Click start (bottom left of your screen)
select "run", type cmd and click ok
now type:
tracert www.hilux4x4.co.za
and then hit enter, wait until it shows complete, copy and paste.

Or maybe it just that ICMP is blocked on the network as part of the incoming port blocking to protect the network users?

Why do you need to do a traceroute? (if you'll pardon an ignorant question....)

Do we need it on? I can always ask.

yes, I do need it on, part of my work is IT related and I need to do tracert to see where problems might be on the way to the packets destination. Plus except for the work, at home, after a ping, I usually do a tracert to check why my 3G is not working or where the bottleneck might be when I do get slow pings, that avoids me having to post here every time something goes wrong ;)

Does that apply to all APNs?

Does that apply to all APNs?

it looks to be like that as of a few days ago, it frist was only the default "Internet" APN, thus I could always switch when I needed it, but the InternetVPN APN is almost halve as slow :(

At least the internet and internetvpn, I would suspect.

I going out on a limb here but I suspect the stateless nature of ICMP will let the firewalls block the returning ICMP packets.

There might be a way to make it stateful. I'll ask.

Thanks V3G, that would be great!
