Why do the SA cellular providers not allow notification via SMS for twitter accounts?

As per registration to use twitter the user requirement to participate in the use of your own @ xxxxxx is done via email address provided as registration. And therefor no mobile number is require to register for Twitter usage, the question remains then how is your SP is going to generate a SMS to you???? Just thinking aloud..

Yeah, SA is always left out. SMS notifications are available for nearly all other regions. I suspect the reason is that the local cellular providers are charging too much compared to other regions for Twitter to consider it and/or they aren't willing to form an agreement with Twitter because, let's face it, Vodacom and the like won't do something to "help" customers unless they can make a truck load of money from it.

Yeah, I suspect it is more for the ripoff angle than any other. I was hoping for a response from someone at Vodacom, since it works fine on my AT&T phone. Are there any packages that offer unlimited texts in SA at all?

Pricing here is ridiculous.
