Hello,

This may not be the right subforum for it but I feel that I'm more familiar with you guys than the ones in the other forums :)

I am looking to emigrate, so I'm going to go visit Australia in June to check the place out. I was wondering whether Vodacom would have some kind of roaming agreement with the folks down under?

Well, I did the opposite - emigrated from Oz to here (but some 20 years ago). When I go to Oz to visit, I roam on the vodafone network, but vodacom has reciprocal roaming agreements with 2 others as well. I just found I was nearly always on vodafone as I guess their signal was always strongest. Oh, and a word of warning - be prepared to pay a lot less for the service, get freebies, new phone every year, no contracts, free calls to nominated numbers of your choice, etc, etc.
However, I have to say that on my return to SA, I never seem to notice much of an extra bill for having roamed OS. Maybe they never sent the account from OZ, who knows...:)

Haha... are you going to stick around here in SA? A friend of mine (true blue aussie) had to go back because nobody would give him a job as he was not an SA citizen. Pretty sad as he had a pretty sought after law degree.

Hi Donovan,

Vodacom currently has roaming agreements with a few Oz networks. Have a look at http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/travel/overview.jsp - that has all the options for roaming including tarrifs and what networks you can roam on, etc. - check out the "Charge Guide".

Cheers,

Brad

I get that a lot :p

I reckon 20 years is kinda "stickin' around" - whaddya say, mate?:D

I'm taking a month off to privately tour Japan in September, I just saw that on CellC I'll get better rates for roaming, even though it's Softbank (was Vodafone) doing the roaming.

CellC:
JAPAN Softbank (Vodafone K.K.) Local: 3.79 To SA: 16.16 SMS: 2.18 Receive call: 3.14 3G** Yes No

Vodacom:
JAPAN Softbank Corp: Local: R 6.00 To SA: R 17.95 SMS: R 2.75 Receive call: R 5.40

VodaCom is bigger than CellC and Vodafone was a partner before (VODAcom/VODAfone) - maybe SoftBank isn't then, oh well, maybe VodaCom just likes ripping ppl off.

From CellC:

There may be up to a 3 month delay in call charges reflecting on statements due to the late downloading of Call Data Records (CDR's) from foreign networks.
