Hi all, i would like some guidance on Vodacom bands.
Every now and then (not sure if its loadshedding dependant) our vodacom (300+300 Black friday deal) contact internet goes down to a point where its unusable (still connected but speeds are below 10Kbp/s). I have a B525 and live in a rural area. The B525 is used with 2x Poynting LPDA's (one horizontal and one vertical). This works very well when it works.
Restarting the router sometimes helps (this might change the bands?)
Today i fiddled around with the router and saw the B3 and B40 only options. i usually set it on auto or 4g only. After i changed over from 4g only (with full strengh 4g strengh bars on the home screen) to B3 only, my internet came back instantly (30mb line+ 20ms ping). I saw that the homepage changed to 4g+ with only 2 bar strengh.
This makes me think if im rather experiencing a band issue. Did some googling and saw that vodacom has 3x LTE bands (not sure if this has changed):
B1 (2100 MHz) B3 (1800 MHz) B8 (900 MHz)
Is this still correct at present? It seems as though @cavedog is very knowledgeable on this subject.
What are my options? Would it be recommended to change to a different router that might support better carrier aggregation or different bands or some other new tech that would help in this situation? I need external antennas. Are the old Poyniting LPDA's still good enough? Are there any hacks i can do to the B525 to enable better configuration? (i had to do something via the browser inspect tool a while back to unhide the DNS settings so that it would run through my pihole).
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
