Was a really long thread about this:

The shares are now fully subscribed and you will not be able to purchase them. You had to apply at your local post office about a month ago.
Yes, they are real shares in the company - discounted and subject to strict rules and restrictions regarding their sale though.
They were only available to non-white members of the public and preference was supposedly given to the less fortunate. Preference was also given to certain races which might explain why some people were not allocated what they were after...;)

They not.

Any other buy receive their full allocation?

They not.

Well they are to an extent - just stripped of their voting rights and some other aspects IIRC. Must look at the prospectus again, but they are taxed as an equity...

No they not.

Care to elaborate? I breezed over the prospectus. Are they derivatives then?

They shares in YeboYethu not Vodacom, it will become Ordinary Vodacom shares in 7 years once YeboYethu get their cut. Both are non public listed companies so they cant be equity based AFAIK.

Equity exist in private companies as well...;)

Ah yes, yeboyethu - slipped me mind. Was more concerned with the Sasol shares when they came out TBH. Must dig out that prospectus and go over it again some time - took a long-term view on that one so wasnt too bothered about it.

How many Vodacom shares did you apply for, and how many did you receive?

Hi all:).

As the title mentions, how many Vodacom shares did you apply for and how many did you receive?

I applied for 600. I received 100.
My sister applied for 200, and she also received 100.

So how many did the rest of you get?

I got the sms from Post Bank for the refund on Thursday. The money hasn't reflected in my FNB account as yet.

It's not much better being Indian either. If the shares where oversubscribed 3 times over, I thought I would at least receive one-third of what I applied for. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case:(.

What is your melanin score? Maybe that is a factor...:D:D

:D

Medium complexion.

I must actually ask my Indian colleagues at work if they bought, if not I suppose it's too late for them now?
