Vodacom billing for google play store

So I'm guessing you couldn't activate this without a SIM in the device?

No it has to be in the device doing the purchase. If you swap sims that payment method although still listed is unavailable...

Yeah figured it must be authenticating and sending some sim data along.

Excuse the necro, but I'm having issues with making in-app purchases again. I can't seem to make purchases with my monthly airtime (Flexi uChoose). It says I don't have enough credit, but I have more than enough airtime! Is anyone else having the same problem?

Yep same here. Very frustrating

Yup, it is another VC mess which they have failed dismally to explain to their customers.
After the new regulations, EVEN IF YOU ARE ON A CONTRACT, you have to have available "airtime" to be able to make certain calls which do not get counted down against your available minutes. This applies to certain 0860 numbers for example, but you as a customer do not know which 0860 numbers will require airtime and which will not.

Then IF you have implemented the complete WASP block control, no automatic charges will accrue to your account anymore, which apparently impacts on App purchases, IF you do not have an "airtime" credit available. You have to deliberately load a credit at whatever ridiculous charge applies before the purchases are then processed.

That is the understanding I have (courtesy of the useless call centre) which tried their best to explain all of the BS.

Personally, I find it perfect because it now means no inadvertent purchases of apps can happen which suits me down to the ground but would drive others crazy I suppose.

All this is because of the very existence of these things called WASPS.

That doesn't even make sense, because in their terms and conditions, it was stated that the monthly airtime could be used for in-app purchases in Google Play, and no communication was made that it would change with the new regulations. Making in-app purchases and buying data are the main reasons I have this contract, so if this is a permanent change, then I will have to consider other options.

When I enquired about it, I received a reference number, and was told it will be investigated, so I will be waiting on their response.

Hopefully it was just an oversight on their part, and we'll be able to make in-app purchases again.

Check the VC app and look for the airtime category. If it shows a zero value, App purchases will fail. Negative balances are apparently not allowed, so you have to create a credit -- that is according to the call centre.
