Vodacom Blackberry BIS Server

OS 5 is not only available for the Tour but for the Bold and Curve and Storm as well.
My experiences are related to the Curve , Bold , Storm on version 5.

I do have 26 different OS'es that I can share with you if you want ranging from a 8100 to a 9530 :)

Atleast i know now i am not alone ! :D In my download folder is a blackberry folder which is almost 4gb :D

Hello everybody

I bought a BlackBerry Bold 9700 last week - it's my first blackberry.
I'm very confused with the whole thing, and I can't seem to get straight answers.
I'm hoping somebody can answer my questions.
I come from a symbian S60 and WinMo and little iPhone2G background, im also a hobby software developer.

1. What is the BlackBerry OS Platform? Are all applications java based or are there native apps as well?
2. Why can't I set up a normal email address? What is this BIS and How does it actually work, and what is the point?
3. Are the applications installed using an installer (like cydia) on the phone or can you just bluetooth (file send) a program (like S60) and install it?
4. Im using OS 5.0.0.321 and most apps are not working/or fail to install. How do I configure all access points (eg. VodaCom 3G, VodaCom MMS, VodaFone Live!) ?
5. How do I select which connection (3G, Wifi, VLive! etc) should an app use to connect?

I have signed the VodaCom BIS for R69/mo. They say it will be activated in 24hrs. How do I set up the phone once it's activated? I'm concerned that my phone is new.
When I try and register I get an error:
"This BlackBerry(R) device is not registered with your wireless service provider.
Please register this device and verify that the URL of the current web site matches
the one provided by your wireless service provider. "

I don't know if this is off-topic, but i'd appreciate any help i can get.

Hi and welcome.

1. Blackberry is basicly java. Google for "blackberry software development" for bit more info (not so clued up on that)
2. Bis is blackberry internet service. Bb doesn't work like normal phone, sort of have its own network that it uses. Once bis is up, it and you have configured your account on http://mobileemail.vodafonesa.co.za your email will be pushed to you. All on device browsing and some apps are included in bis sub and no extra charges.
3. Best way to install apps is owa, have a look at the latest apps thread has a lot of links to owa for BB. Or install the desktop manager to install downloaded apps.
4. No configuration needed from your side it will be pushed once bis is active.
5. Most apps will use bis automatically and others will need to be configured.

Got to options, advance options, host routing table. Press BB buttom(BB symbol on button) select regester.

The 3g, edge, gprs will change to capital when active.

You need to make sure that EDGE/GPRS/3G is in capitals to know that the service has been correctly provisioned.

BIS is like an email program (you configure it from the device or a web interface viz http://mobileemail.vodafonesa.co.za/) and it will "fetch" your email from existing accounts and "deliver" / "push" it to the Blackberry device by means of talking to the device "PIN" which is found in Options -> Status.

As a value-add you can also have a device email address ending in either ...

Hey guys

Thanks so much for all the help n advice.
Yesterday evening I got a sms to say my BIS is activated. Everything fell into place:
The appworld appeared, and a few other appz as well. Even my facebook is working now. I configured an email account as well, and its pushing mail already.
Im very very pleased with this phone!
Yes, i notice the GPRS and 3G is now in caps. thanks.

However when I log on to (http://mobileemail.vodafonesa.co.za/) i get the following message:
"Your account is not accessible via HTML browser. Please use your device to access BlackBerry Internet Service."

Am I missing out on something?
 
By the sound of it, ou setup our email on the wizard on the device.

What you need to do is, go in on the link on your phone and somewhere there you must tic, allow html access to get access on computer/laptop to the site.
 
Ok, i found it, on my device it says, i currently have secure access to BIS from the device without entering any user name or password. If i create a user name/pass (permanent change) i will get access to the web interface and will need to supply this credentials each and everytime..
So is it worth it? Are there more features available if I create an account here?
 
Easier to setup and configure accounts from the web, but pretty much the same as the mobile interface.

My BlackBerry says my device is not registered with my wireless provider. I went to HOST ROUTIONG TABLE, pressed register now but still can't come right.

Any clever obnes here? w1tw0lf?
