Hi Guys,

On the BB Talk 240 package is the following free and unlimited?

1.Internet browsing like Facebook (on the handset)
2.Email (if I set up my personal pop3 mail on the handset) or is it just BB mail.
3.IM like msn, Skype etc.

Thanks

1 - yes
2 - yes
3 - IM yes. Voip no. Not even sure there is a skype app.

Thanks

So I take it I can have my personal email on the handset also for free?

not sure for the device but there is a skype j2me app/beta which allows both voip(or maybe that was under dev? last yr or earlier?) and text/IM

You don't get an official release of Skype for BB yet. There is a closed beta program ongoing last time I asked (3 months ago). I don't use it so not sure if it uses free data via the BB service or goes via the normal data plan rate.

If your wanting skype, the only real options are Nimbuzz (free) for text and then you get IM+ (~$40) has all your IM's you need with soem really neat features like push mode (sign out of client to save battery and get im's pushed to ur chosen email, you can reply via email too).

Fro VOIP, IM+ for Skype is advertised as supporting true skype VOIP (~$30).

Info provided outside of the closed beta indicate only selected models, supporting 3G will support the skype client, none of the GPRS/EDGE devices will be able to support it, not even via wifi so the Crve 850 will never support VOIP except with the IM+ for Skype, i have not tested that version of IM+ but will definitely be buying the full client, not too interested in voip on a GPRS device, way too much effort having a conversation on something so slow.

What phone would you recommend,

Bold 9000
Curve 8900
I like them both. The slightly bigger form factor of the Bold gave them a place to put in 3G which may or may not be of value to you.

I have Bold and love it. I'm just hating MTN's criminally slow "3G" speeds of 3KB/s to a whopping 12KB/s at 1am. Good thing you are going with Vodacom! My wife has a blackberry on Vodacom and they really have improved their speeds a lot.

Bold for the 3g/hsdpa so u don't compete with mxit people(pending your area) :P friend use to use gprs/edge and would tell me the times when he would struggle connecting to the base stations etc to get on net or keep get booted off.
