Hi All

Anyone using Vodacom's BBC Wireless service. I am keen to find out how it performs.

I am looking at the 10Mbps Uncapped option.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Regards,

Riaan

I have a client that is in the process of getting this from me. Let me check tomorrow how far his install is and if he is up and running ask him if he could give feedback here. If you are satisfied I could help you with the application

What product are you looking for? The LTE one? If you want, I can assist you. I have done a few of them already.

The BBC Wireless 20Mbps Uncapped.

Ah I see. Yes, the Wireless one is a bit of a process. Not as easy to do as the BC LTE. Reason being that when we place the order for you, then we have to complete a desktop study form (questions include the building height, what story the install will be for, GPS location etc). Vodacom then does a feasibility study to see if the product would work as expected @ that exact location and once they approve it, we get the desktop study back with the results which we then attach to the order on our system and submit it. From there it goes to a 3rd party who gets the equipment ready and configured and sets a install date. I have done one which is set for installation on the 29th, and the same customer requested a second one for which I have sent the desktop study form, but awaiting the results still to take it further.

Have you given the GPS location etc to whoever you applied with for the Desktop study?

finally got this BBC deal...only took a mere 74 days.
Thanks for trying to assist @Ockie
has anyone managed to bypass that stock HUAWEI router that vodacom installed?
Seems to use PPPOE authentication to connect but looking through that router I see that VC left way to many doors open for themselves on that router to peek and peer whenever they wish. Attempting to chuck out that HUAWEI and drop in my own secure WANrouter

U are welcome. Pity they already already submitted your app on the system. If they had not I could have done it for you, but since they had I did not want to duplicate anything.

As for the router, I would not suggest it. Even with LTE Vodacom recommends that you stick with the router and modem supplied as it is configured by them before delivery. If anything else is used then the service could go pear shaped. Nothing stopping you from trying I suppose, but it is not recommended by us.

@rvanwyk - already not as expected running 3/4 of advertised speed no matter when you test it despite a solid connection.
@Ockie - a crying same indeed that I came across you too late, but you are definitely my first call when we have another order. As for the router, yikes!!! Bar the fact that adding yet another routing layer to a network and having to rely on an additional piece of hardware to keep servers connected the level of access that VC has to jump into a business network over their router with encrypted certificates is just plain scary as every port, mac id and route is clearly visible to them. You can't access that gateway either over the net or setup watchdogs, scheduled reboots etc. so guess who is jumping in a car racing to the office when that gateway freezes and then you wait for a replacement. IF this was for home users, i'd say sure, no issue. but a service sold pretty much exclusively for business...i don't think so. None the less, shall tinker, any advice would be appreciated as I'd rather prefer my very last call being to vodacom instead of the first.

Has anyone else got any feedback? I'm interested in the 10Mbps uncapped for home / soho use but especially for FPS gaming (battlefield series and cs:go) and twitch streaming (my daughter had some marginal success but ADSL up just doesn't cut it).
Vodacom have done all they need to do apparently. I just need to sign the dotted line. Just have to make sure for that sort of commitment that I'm getting the right product.

Will ask my customer that took 3 from me if he can give a indication of the speeds he gets on his.

it's brilliant when it works, but outtages are becoming worrying. Down the whole day, vodacom just says they are aware there are issues...nice, glad to hear you know about it. Now how about bloody well getting it sorted?

If you are going to take it, ONLY GET IT FROM @OCKIE, else you'll be pulling your hair out like I am...here's looking at your ALISOM!
other resellers are absolute rubbish
