Hi all,

I am currently with Cool Ideas + Vodacom Fibre, (Vodacom is not an option where I am).

My internet drops every couple of minutes for about 10-20 seconds or so ... you do not really notice it when watching a movie or youtube, thanks to buffering, ... but it does happen.

It is a pain when I am going from one website to another, I need to wait a couple of seconds before I reload the site and all is good.

The big issue is with work, when I am on a Teams call, the connection is lost for a couple of seconds and then I can reconnect. Thankfully Teams is fairly good at reconnecting quickly, but it is quite a pain to say the least.

I could log a ticket, but I am not even sure what to say, from experience, I know Cool Idea will blame me, my modem, the wind, the riots, Donald Trump, before they even do anything.

Can anybody recommend a monitoring tool that I could use to monitor my network? Preferably something open source?
I would like some kind of data to tell me if my network is indeed dropping packets or if it is something else.

Any suggestions as to what I could/should look into?

Log a ticket, we can see if the session is dropping and address it from there. If we blame the router then we will test another etc.

I have a similar issue except I'm with CISP + Vumatel Aerial , I have a burst of 100% packet loss for 5 - 10 seconds (PPPOE Session doesn't drop). Its frustrating to try and game or use discord with my line as it is.

I logged a ticket with support , they have been helpful , requesting MTR's and following up with my FNO. Its been a rather slow process (months at this point) and I don't get the idea that they fully understand that its not congestion related packet loss , but something that happens randomly throughout the day.

To help with monitoring you can leave WinMTR running when you experience the loss, another tool is Smokeping, I've recently set it up on an old Raspberry pi, to log more data for CISP.

Hopefully you have better luck than I've had.

Thanks, I will give those a try for a day or two before I log a call with CI, I have a PI as well, so maybe I can hook it up directly in the modem to get some good data.
