Long story short, I took a contract in 2016 for Note 5 and never upgraded. The contract was upgraded fraudulently and I spoke to vodacom and they cancelled the upgrade and refunded me. Now I want to cancel their data plan but they are refusing because I must waiti for the fraudulently upgraded contract duration to end. Is this even legal?

Thank you for the advice. I’ll reverse it and wait for them to attempt to contact me since contacting them is not helping at all.

@winner - Definitely NOT FRAUD. The contract T&C- Please read these contract details and you should see the answer to your contract problem and it is not a fraudulent action by Vodacom as mentioned by some parties. Id13 hopefully now you can see the relevance of the facts !!!!!
4. Duration
4.1. This Agreement will start on the Activation Date and, subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement shall continue for the Initial Period. After the Initial Period this Agreement will automatically continue on a month to month basis subject to any changes which we have notified you of unless you or Vodacom terminate it on at least 20 (twenty) business days written notice :)

I always insist on written communication or confirmation, did they confirm with you that the upgraded contract was terminated?

I do note the refund, however, was there a confirmation?

I, too, find it dodgy (if there was confirmation of the cancellation) that they are telling you that you should wait for the contract to run its term when it is supposed to be terminated. You should be running on a month to month basis.

I saw you edited your post. Please note that the forum software does not notify parties that an existing post was edited, as in, I would've never seen your response if I did not open the thread and scroll up...

In context of the OP, my interpretation of the situation is that the OP took out a contact in 2016. Sometime after 2018, when the contract was in its month to month state a 3rd party, not authorized by the OP, upgraded the contact - fraudulently. This is my assumption. @winner Mind clearing that up please?

Lets say the upgrade happened in 2019. The OP then disputed the upgrade and Vodacom correctly cancelled the upgrade. Now Vodacom is refusing to cancel the underlying 2016 ""contract"", as, according to them at least, one can only do that at the end of the new contract period, at say e.g. the end of 2020. The 2016 contract should be in a month to month state, and the OP should be able to cancel it with e.g. 1 month notice.

You summed it up very well. Except that the upgrade was 2 months before the end of my contract and no effort was made to communicate it to me

Sorry to barge in on this thread. I have a query relating to cancelling a vodacom contract though and this seemed the best place to post. My vodacom contract ended some time ago (Think almost a year ago now). However they are still charging me monthly (Yeah I'm the dumbass). I want to cancel the contract but want to do it in writing. I have called before and no cancellation has taken place. So the million dollar question is how do I cancel my contract via email?
