Vodacom could link with rivals

"Vodacom has not yet officially been named as a partner, probably"

Probably? I think something is missing.

Seems like a bit of a pointless story.

It's not based on a single fact.
It's possible that they could link with rivals, but they also might not.

Possible that mybroadband is biased towards Vodacom.. lol :D:D:D:D:D

Good for them to bring down their roll-out costs, bad for us, as they won't be competing against each other.

Telkom vs Them as far competition goes, would have been nicer if it was Telkom vs Neotel vs MTN vs Vodacom = consumer win!

-twiga

Well - I know MyBroadband and the Competition Commission haven't been the best of friends lately, but would it not be possible to lodge a objection to this joint venture if VodaCom joins as well.

This would put CellC at a serious disadvantage, and it reduces competition to Telkom to only one player.

Unless they are willing to let dark fibre at a cost plus basis to other players.

Who stands to gain ...

I have been following this with some interest and have to wonder what is in it for Neotel.

Vodacom & MTN have an access network and gain by having there own long haul connectivity and direct access to SEACOM and whatever new cable finally arrives in Cape Town.

Neotel - has a limited access network and instead of reselling long haul/ international connectivity to the companies who need it are essentially helping there rivals better position themselves in there own market space.

So while price still is dominant it seems to me that MTN and Vodacom gain all the way and Neotel is essentially selling the proverbial family jewels. After this an existing customer of Vodacom/MTN who let's face it have more corporate customers than Neotel would ever hope to have, never need to use Neotel at all.

Unless there is more the MTN/Neotel agreement than we are being told.

Seems very strange.
