I've just seen my HTC sensation go from a super phone into a nice brick I can't actually use. Never realised this before but this phone pretty much becomes unusable when there is no 3G / HSDPA coverage. Vodacom is going to have to switch from a rural to an urban polygon on all the lil towns on the South coast of it hopes to keep their customers happy over the holidays. I will raise this issue with the powers that be when I am back at work next year.

Hi
I must agree with you about coverage on the South Coast, I live in Hibberdene and this past week the broadband service
is all but non existent. I called 082155 a few times only to be told that there is a network problem in KZN and they cant
give me a idea of when all will be up and running. Strange though, I bought this R499 - 20 gig bundle and although VD has
stated elsewhere in here that Vodacom do not throttle any BB service, I dont quite agree, I am able to connect to the net
but can do little else, the speed test is a total joke and looking at the speeds on the VMC dashboard I can see high upload
speeds with very low download speeds. Hope it all gets fixed before this 20gig bundle expires.

Anyone got more info on these network problems?

My on mate was biatching on friday night that his internet access is basically non existent, he can't even do online banking for his business. This is on the north coast coast though, Ballito - Chakas Rock area.

I Think this extends down to Eastern Cape as well.
In Jeffreys bay there has almost been no 3G connectivity that works for 3 days now. Usually get slow to reasonable speeds. Now cannot even connect ?
Bought a data bundle specially to use here but now cannot use it ?

Can also confirm problems with EC users cannot get on-line, either using Blackberry's or Modems - Some users can get on-line if they use their SIMs in phones and run OperaMini on EDGE or Vodacom Live

Perhaps Vodacom thinks there is not a problem and that things are just really quiet this time of year... well I guess that's the line they might use for the press, maybe they feel they can just brass it out and hope that it will all go away... but maybe, just maybe they might just fix the problem

I have found for two days in a row that I am able to connect in the early hours of the morning but during the day it's hell there is no connectivity at all i cant even do simple browsing or banking. From around 1am to 6am it seems to be "normal" from 7am its a no go.

It's normal for this time of year!

The towers simply do not have the capacity however, the networks are not forward thinking enough to realise that come holiday time they will be upsetting their prime customers!

Stilbaai started to fall over on the 19th for Vodacom (MTN is slow but usable) your only option is to enable 2G/GSM mode so your handset doesn't select 3G/HSPA.

I'm in Chakas Rock area, in the Eco Estate up on the hill, been here for 3 days and the 3G on my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S and pretty much nonexistent. The devices both show 3G signal most times but some speedtest.net tests show results of 0.00mbps!

My 20GB bundle is useless at this point.

Knysna area just as useless. That 20gig bundle is the biggest waste of R500 ever.

This.

There is no quick fix...its a matter of building up extra capacity which I think the time has come to do.

Was there last week with friends. 3 devices on vc, 2 on MTN and little to no throughput. Too many people, too few towers. You only realize when you're outside of the main metros how poor wireless is in za. Coverage on national highways is also pretty dismal. Some of these cities don't know about wifi hotspots either.
