So Jannie explained to us all that Vodacom has a lot of mechanisms in place so there faithful will not go OOB... Well the notification system they have in place does not work... and from where I am sitting, it might never work! It is really just starting to look like smoke and mirrors to me and Vodacom happily collects every OOB cent, rubbing their greedy hands.

I think this speaks for itself.

If on LTE then 2 hours could result in plenty of butthurt!

I estimated a 1050MB download. I had 1024 left on night owl and 160 on normal... But if it was a looping download on LTE, I would have been totally screwed.

Jannie did say he will reduce OOB rates to be the same as IB rates, but who knows when that will happen

They suck indeed at this. I'm OOB already and always get the sms notification that I'm OOB waaay after. Vodascum lives up to its name, lucky I also use a 3'd party Data counter...

You have 2 options:

1) Get a prepaid sim card and use that for data

2) Get a topup contract, OOB does not get added to your account, it comes off of any prepaid balance you have in your topup airtime.

Did you actually check the balance? I got a similar double message but when I did the #111# and checked the balance I had the full amount still.

I think their workflow system went a bit wonky.

Yes, I did. I have their app on my phone. OOB charges already added.

I don't think their system went a bit wonky - the more I read and listen to other VDC customers, the more I think it was wonky all along and it doesn't get sorted out. But why would they went to sorry it out? It makes money... If they really cared, they would have reduced all OOB rates to IB rates and they would have sorted the notification system long ago. And in cases like mine completely reverse the OOB costs because of the wrong notification.

When was that previous notification sen (the one off frame at the top)t? The day before?

On Sunday, but it is for my cellphone data, not my data contact. If you look a couple of posts up, I noted the data I had available and how I planned my downloads. It turned out that +- 1300MB was downloaded vs +- 1050.

Are you (or anyone) aware of a model to judge "total" download MB's against what you see next to the file you want to download?

ie. Download file size = 1050MB, Bandwidth used for Downloaded = 1300MB? How are you downloading the file? If it's a torrent then the reason is obvious, other transfer systems have a bit of overhead but I've never seen anything use that much data before.

To make sure, you received the SMSs out of order?

I'll send you a PM with details I'd like you to mail me so we can trace what happened.

Yes. Last week sometime I got a message similar to the last one in the screenshot. That's how I knew I was "low". I keep the records of these smses, so I should be able to give a complete-ish view of the notifications. The big problem I reckon is that the "depleted" sms came too late. You could probably see when I ran out of data and see if/how late the sms was sent. But let's start at a point and work through it.
