I'm buying an iPhone 4 from a family member who is upgrading, but doesn't want a new phone. Currently on Blackberry (BIS) so data wasn't an issue. I'm very loath to get a data contract package - is there anyway to have prepaid data added to my Vodacom voice contract?

Something else, the phone is from MTN - afaik they aren't network locked. Is this correct?

Thanks!

Yeah sure just pop in a prepaid sim and away you go. Not network locked. And it works great under the Cell C network too - I use their 2gb/month promotional SIM in my iPhone 4

 I have a Vodacom voice contract, how can I pop in a prepaid sim?

Oh sorry - not reading attentively. According to this you can bolt on data bundles on a month-to-month or once-off basis:

Sharp, thanks!

I read somewhere that I can get multiple sims for data usage across different devices. This would be a great solution (netbook, ipad, phone) - anyone with experience of this? According to Vodacom -

Multi Data SIMs are available on 24-month data, month-to-month data, 24-month voice and month-to-month voice Contracts.

Is month-to-month the same as prepaid, or is it just a contract with the option to cancel on a month's notice?

yeah that's true - they had a thing called a data sim and stuff. But get Cell C if you're doing that, it's cheaper. (always the Cell C champion :) )

I think month-to-month would be a contract you can end on a month's notice. Not sure though.

I tried to get to grips with the different options on Vodacom's website. Shouldn't have bothered, it is simply a waste of time - confusing, cluttered, devoid of basic information. :(

Just a quick heads up, I went to the Tygervalley Vodashop this afternoon to get it sorted - anticipating a lot of pain and frustration. I've dissed their mostly useless sales reps before, but I was pleasantly surprised by Chanel, so credit is due. She was extraordinarily helpful and efficient. This is what I did -

- Did a sim swop to a micro-sim on my master sim (voice contract) for my iphone
- Cancelled BIS
- Loaded a month-to-month data bundle of MyMeg 500 advanced
- Activated an additional 3 data sims (2 normal, 1 micro) and had them linked to my account. I can now use my ipad and netbook from the main month-to-month data bundle, and my mother can do the same on her laptop.

They weren't initially aware that you could do it, but two quick phone calls and it was sorted. Didn't even take as long as an upgrade usually does. :-)
