Unfortunately it is the cellular service provider that needs to do the activation, i.e. the shop where you got the SIM cards, maybe send an email to [email protected] with details of where you got the SIM cards, and the SIM Card cell numbers or serial numbers, and ask for pressure to be increased on that service provider outlet.

Just a friendly request, please don't give out the number with the 082 prefix - I used to do that a long time ago, and the result was a lot of forumites complaining about being charged when calling from a landline or other non-Vodacom network, so I stopped putting in the 082 prefix as a way to get people to call from a Vodacom SIM Card since that method is tollfree :).

Ok.
What I do is phone from fixed line & then ask them to call me back & they do. I have a Cell C contract given to me so that is why I used 082xxx.

I know the average 155 call waiting|answer times reduced quite a while ago from ~20 minutes to ~30 seconds, but I still refuse to pay Telkodemonopolies for 1 minute or part thereof, so I recommend buying a pre-paid Vodacom SIM card for R2.00 and keeping that in a spare phone [if available] for the purpose of calling 155...:)

Good idea.

Telkodemonopolies

Aaag shame. They could afford an overall reduction of -1.2%

The regulatory formula would have allowed Telkom to file a change in the basket of products of 8.7% (CPI of 7% minus productivity factor of 3.5% plus carry-over of 5,2%). “We have kept our increases well within these limits and have filed for an overall price decrease of -1.2% on our basket services against a carry-over of 8.7%. This clearly demonstrates our on-going commitment to our customers and determination to make telecommunications more affordable and accessible”. September added that this reduction means that in real terms Telkom has reduced its overall prices by 13% from 2003 to 2006.

“While the net impact of the proposed prices will vary among customers the overall effect will be a reduction in the cost of telecommunications in South Africa.”

But local wired home users have to pay more.:mad:

That's exactly what i do! I use the Prepaid SIM i use for my E220 when i need to make a call to 155. I dont have a spare phone, so i do need to take out my MTN SIM from my Phone and call.

Maybe all that will change soon when Vodacom finally approves me for credit :) They declined me the first time becoz i had no credit record! And here i thought having no credit would make my life so much easier :(
